After spending the last year in almost constant pain I was finally diagnosed with pelvic venous congestion syndrome. I had a venogram on Tuesday which is an X-ray test that takes pictures of the blood flow through the veins in a certain area of your body (in my case my pelvic area). A special dye is put into your veins so they can be seen clearly on an X-ray picture. Needless to say that area of your body is not somewhere that you want a long needle with dye injected into your veins. This is actually the second one I have had and they are very painful. I have severe varicose veins in my uterus and my right ovary. When the doctor showed Justin and I what size the veins were supposed to be I was blown away. They were about ten times the size they should be. So he gave me three treatment options:
1) Progesterone therapy.
2) Taking medication to put me into early menopause.
3) A hysterectomy.
I decided that I would try the progesterone first and see how that goes. If it doesn't work then I will try early menopause and as a LAST resort a hysterectomy. I'm so glad to finally have some answers and to know that an end may actually be in sight.
